What types of Ceremony Musicians in Orange County are there to choose from?

For Ceremony Musicians in Orange County there are many options to choose from…

Orange County ceremony musicanThere are two basic things to consider when deciding on your Wedding Ceremony Musicians in Orange County…the instrumentation you want to hear and the actual songs you want played.  Today let’s talk about the different types of instrumentation you have to choose from…

The particular instrumentation you choose will create a certain ambiance and personality for your event, according to Essence Entertainment.  There are many equally lovely options to choose from.  Your decision will be generally based on what you like, the size of your event, and what your budget is.  Here we discuss the traditional options.

ceremony musician orange countyThe most cost-effective option is a Soloist – appropriate for small to medium sized events.  Soloists to choose from are:

  • Solo Guitar
  • Solo Harp
  • Solo Piano / Keyboards
  • Solo Organ
  • Bagpiper

If your Ceremony Site has one, it’s always nice to utilize a Piano or Organ.  But it’s not mandatory, especially if you prefer the sound of a Guitar or a Harp better.  A Solo Artist creates a more intimate atmosphere musically.  For all situations, be sure to pick an instrument that is appropriate for the setting – for instance, if your Ceremony is in the middle of the beach, don’t pick a Harp…it is not possible to get these large, expensive instruments across the sand.  Or if overall volume is a concern, pick a Guitar, as Guitarists generally bring an amplifier.

A Duo is generally one of the above Rhythm Instruments along with a Solo Instrument.  A few examples are:

  • Harp / Violin Duo
  • Harp / Flute Duo
  • Harp / Cello Duo
  • Guitar / Violin Duo
  • Guitar / Flute Duo
  • Guitar / Cello Duo
  • Guitar / Sax Duo
  • Piano / Violin Duo

  • Any Rhythm Instrument with a Vocalist

Can you see the pattern here?  There are many more similar combinations to consider.  Duos are appropriate for small to medium events.  Something to consider when deciding on your music – if your Ceremony Musicians will also be playing for your Cocktail Hour, you want to make sure they won’t get overwhelmed with conversation noise.  For instance, a Solo Harp can get lost in an outdoor setting of 80 people or more.

A Trio is the next configuration to consider.  Now, here, you can have Three Solo Instruments playing together or a Rhythm Instrument with Two Solo Instruments.  Here are some examples:

  • Harp / Cello / Violin Trio
  • Harp / Cello / Flute Trio
  • Guitar / Cello / Violin Trio
  • Guitar / Cello / Flute Trio
  • Guitar / Upright Bass / Flute&Sax Trio
  • Keyboards / Cello / Flute Trio
  • Organ / Trumpet / Vocal Trio
  • Cello / Viola / Flute Trio
  • Cello / Violin / Violin Trio
  • …etc.

If you plan on having a Vocalist sing at your event, it is best to have a Rhythm Instrument in the mix – the Rhythm Instrument is much better suited to accompanying the Vocalist than an ensemble with Three Solo Instruments.

Next to consider is the Quartet – again, it can be with or without a Rhythm Instrument…

  • Harp / Cello / Viola / Violin Quartet
  • Harp / Cello / Violin / Flute Quartet
  • Guitar / Cello / Violin / Flute Quartet
  • Guitar / Cello / Viola / Violin Quartet
  • Cello / Viola / Violin / Violin Quartet
  • Cello / Viola / Violin / Flute Quartet
  • …etc.

The most popular Quintet configuration is the Brass Quintet.

The best way to decide on which Ensemble is best for you is to listen to them!  An ensemble with a Violin has a different personality than an Ensemble with a Flute.  Guitar is different from a Harp both visually and auditorily.  A Quartet sounds different from a Duo.

Other factors to consider, as mentioned above, are budget, the size of event / number of Guests you’re having, and even the space you have available.  The larger ensembles are of course more appropriate for larger events.

The traditional favorite is still Strings.  There are a few decisions to be made when designing the type of Wedding Ceremony Music Orange County ensemble you’d like to have at your Ceremony – first, do you want a String Trio or a String Quartet; the next decision is whether you want All Strings or an ensemble with Flute.  All options are beautiful – they just have different personalities.  Essence Entertainment says to be sure to listen to the available options to make an informed choice.  Here is a video featuring a String Ensemble with Flute:

Continuing with the string family, next is Harp.  You can have a Solo Harpist, a Duo, a Trio or a Quartet.  For a Duo you can add a Flute, or a Violin, or a Cello.  The Trio usually adds a Cello plus either a Flute or a Violin.  Again, as with the String Ensemble, the Quartet can be All Strings, adding a Cello, Viola and Violin, or it can be with Flute, adding a Cello, Violin and Flute.  As with the String Ensembles, the different options which you can hire through Essence Entertainment are all lovely – listen to them all to get a good idea of what your options are.  Here is a Harp Quartet with Harp, Cello, Violin and Flute:

Guitar is also a lovely instrument for your Wedding Ceremony.  You can have Solo Guitar or an Ensemble.  The Solo Guitar generally plays Classical Music, but it’s also nice if you’d like more of a contemporary or folksy sound.  One option Essence Entertainment really likes with the Guitar is the Duo – you can add a Flute Player who also doubles on Saxophone – thereby, the Guitar/Flute plays Classical Music during the Ceremony, and the the Guitar/Sax plays during the Cocktail Hour, playing a wide variety of Jazz and Contemporary repertoire — it’s like having two groups for the price of one!  A Guitar Trio usually adds a Cello or an Upright Bass (again, that Upright Bass is great for the Jazz repertoire during Cocktails).  A Violin can also be incorporated instead of the Flute option.  Here is a sample of Solo Guitar:

If your church has a Piano and / or an Organ, you can utilize these instruments beautifully for your Wedding Ceremony.  They can be used individually, or you can add another instrument or two, most notably a Trumpet or a Vocalist.

The Newport Beach Marriott Hotel hosted a Group Wedding Menu Tasting in their Grand Pacific Ballroom on Friday, March 14, 2014.

The event was attended by 15 existing or prospective wedding couples and their families.  They arrived at 6:00pm, eagerly awaiting the evening’s wedding menu tasting.

The Guests were welcomed with a lovely Cocktail Party in the Foyer and Patio in front of the Pacific Ballroom.  Pianist Danial Barnard entertained them with his delightful music.   Daniel has been performing for Essence Entertainment clients for over 10 years.  He specializes in Classical, Jazz and Pop repertoire, perfect for Cocktail Parties, intimate Dinners, Wedding Ceremonies, Luncheons, and various Corporate events.

As the Guests entered the Grand Pacific Ballroom, they were greeted by the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel Staff headed by Alisa Walsh and Amber Palmer.     Essence Entertainment‘s DJ Tim Coy created the ideal atmosphere throughout the evening with his wide variety – yet always appropriate – selection of music.  The volume was high enough to create the right energy, yet continually allowed for comfortable conversation.

Essence Entertainment was invited to provide all of the entertainment for the evening.  In addition, two of Essence Entertainment’s finest were there and available to answer any questions the Wedding Couples might have during the Newport Beach Marriott Wedding Menu Tasting.  Robin Kelly, Dir. of Marketing & Accounts, was accompanied by Dennis Morrison, Executive Account Manager.  They graciously hosted the Essence Entertainment Booth and were a great help to the Wedding Couples in attendance.

Many other wonderful Wedding Vendors participated, providing products and services as well as useful information for weddings.  Two preferred Wedding Coordinators were especially helpful with overall planning information:  Candice Sanders, Events By Candice, and Sara Holland, At Your Door Events.   Be sure to chat with these ladies if you are about to begin planning for your Wedding or Event!

The highlight of the evening was the delectable Newport Beach Marriott Wedding Menu provided by the Newport Beach Marriott‘s Chef, Adrien Sbrana.  Chef Adrien and his staff provided mouthwatering menu selections, including Sea Bass, Filet Mignon and Chicken dishes.  Along with Soup, Salad, and Dessert items, the Wedding Couples got an excellent idea of what options are available to them on their special day!

All in all, the evening was a resounding success!  The Guests so enjoyed the evening that they stayed much longer than anticipated, reveling in delicious food, great conversation, helpful information gathering and wonderful music.  The Newport Beach Marriott Wedding Menu Tasting was the place to be Friday night!
